Today, the Indian market closed down with a red mark. BSE SmallCap Select Index is the top gainer whereas, BSE BANKEX was the top loser.

On the last trading session of the week, the Indian equity market closed on a negative note. Besides, the majority of the sectoral indices closed on a positive note, while some ended negatively.

In today’s trade, Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex indices closed down by 8.20 points i.e., 0.05% and 76.71 points i.e., 0.13%, respectively. Stocks that supported BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 to pull the index up were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, HDFC Ltd, Infosys Ltd and ITC Ltd. Whereas, stocks that dragged BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 down were ICICI Bank Ltd, HDFC Bank Ltd and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex opened up by 0.57% and 0.90%, respectively from the previous close.

On a sectoral basis, S&P BSE SmallCap Select Index, S&P BSE SmallCap, S&P BSE 400 MidSmallCap Index and S&P BSE Enhanced Value Index were top gainers. BSE SmallCap Select Index consisting of stocks such as Laurus Labs Ltd, Can Fin Homes Ltd, Coforge Ltd, Bata India Ltd, IndiaMART InterMESH Ltd and Atul Ltd led the pack.

In Friday's trading session, S&P BSE BANKEX, S&P BSE Auto, S&P BSE Private Banks Index and S&P BSE Finance were the top losers. The BANKEX index consisting of stocks such as Bandhan Bank Ltd, ICICI Bank Ltd, Axis Bank Ltd, State Bank of India Ltd, HDFC Bank Ltd and AU Small Finance Bank Ltd were the top drags.
