Sensex gains 400 points, Nifty 50 nears 17,300 level led by auto and power stocks. 

All of the major Asian markets were rising, and the SGX Nifty index, which gained 17 points, signalled a flat opening for the broader index in India. The Indian headline indices, in contrast, started the day higher owing to uplifting global cues.

At 12:40 pm, the Nifty 50 was trading at the 17,285.80 level, rising by 0.74%. On the Nifty 50 index, the top gainers were Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Motors and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone whereas Sun Pharmaceuticals, Hindustan Unilever and HDFC Life Insurance were the top losers of the session.

Sensex was trading at a level of 57,962.93, gaining by 0.68%. The top gainers were Mahindra and Mahindra, Reliance Industries and Maruti Suzuki whereas Sun Pharmaceuticals, Hindustan Unilever Ltd and IndusInd Bank were the market draggers.

While all sectors were trading in the green, the top three gainers for the session were BSE Auto, BSE Power, and BSE Utilities. The laggards of the day are BSE Healthcare stocks. For the fifth consecutive month, the GST collections for July were above Rs 1.4 lakh crore. The gross GST revenue collected in July 2022 was Rs 1,48,995 crore, which was the second-highest amount since the Goods and Services Tax was implemented.
