Equity indices declined at the close, following bearish Asian cues, while negative domestic economic indicators affected mood.
After briefly dipping below that level in morning trade, the Nifty 50 index was able to settle above that point. Due to the expiration of weekly index options on the NSE, trading was erratic. Healthcare, pharmaceutical, and media stocks were in high demand. Banks and financial sector stocks, however, were under pressure. The S&P BSE Sensex, the barometer index, fell 57,235.33 points, or 390.58 points, or 0.68%. To reach 17,014.35 the Nifty 50 index dropped 109.25 points, or 0.64%.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index decreased 0.45%, while the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 0.73% overall. Market breadth was not strong as 1293 shares on the BSE increased while 2137 shares decreased, and 132 shares were unchanged overall. Major laggards included SBI (down 2.36%), ICICI Bank (down 1.6%), and HDFC Bank (down 1.11%). After the firm announced a 51% increase in net profit to Rs 9.70 crore on an 18.5% increase in operations revenue to Rs 68.19 crore in Q2 FY23 over Q2 FY22, Aditya Birla Money saw a 12.45% gain.
India's benchmark 10-year federal paper's yield decreased to 7.422 from 7.435 at close in the previous trading session. The value of the rupee relative to the dollar decreased in the foreign currency market. The partially convertible rupee was trading at 82.38, down from its previous trading session's closing of 82.33. For the 5 December 2022 settlement, MCX Gold futures increased by 0.33% to Rs 51,075. The US Dollar index (DXY), which measures the value of the dollar in relation to a variety of other currencies, fell 0.30% to 112.98. The yield on US 10-year bonds increased by 0.02% to 3.903. Brent crude for December 2022 settlement increased 16 cents or 0.17% to $92.61 a barrel on the commodities market.
The Dow Jones futures increased by 142 points, signalling a positive start to today's trading on the US stock market. As investors awaited the U.S. inflation data that is due later today, most European markets rose on Thursday while Asian stocks fell.
