Most of the leading global indices advanced amid overall positive cues.

On Wall Street - Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended sharply higher surging 1.34%, 2.02% and 2.76%, respectively. On the other side, Asian markets witnessed mixed sentiments. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 advanced, whereas Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and China’s Shanghai SE Composite declined in today’s early trades.

In India, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) climbed to a new high of 15.1% due to the Russia-Ukraine war, Covid lockdowns in China, constantly soaring fuel prices and overall global inflation. WPI inflation was nearly 10-11% in the month of April 2021.

At 11:15 am, the Nifty 50 was trading at 16,334.35, up by 0.46%. The top gainers in the Nifty 50 pack were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Bajaj Auto Ltd and Tata Consumer Products. On the other hand, top losers were Power Grid Corporation of India, Bharti Airtel and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. Nifty Bank was at the level of 34,486.35, jumping by 0.54%. The top performers trading in the green were Axis Bank, HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Sensex was trading at a level of 54,566.59, upwards by 0.46%. BSE Midcap index was trading at a level of 22,812.10, up by 0.49%. BSE Smallcap index surged by 0.85% and was trading at a level of 26,542.07. The top performers of Sensex were Asian Paints, Axis Bank and Sun Pharmaceuticals. Stocks pulling down the index were Power Grid Corporation of India, Bharti Airtel and State Bank of India.

On the sectoral front, most of the indices were trading in green, with BSE Utilities and BSE Power being the best performers.
