Following favourable global cues, the frontline indices ended Monday's trading with significant gains that were close to the day's high.

The Nifty finished above 16,250, while an uptick in IT stock prices ended a five-day losing run. Healthcare and auto stocks both declined at the same time. The S&P BSE Sensex, the industry standard, increased 760.37 points, or 1.41%, to 54,521.15. To reach 16,278.50, the Nifty 50 index rose 229.30 points or 1.43%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index increased 1.39%, while the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index increased 1.49% overall. Market breadth was positive as 2,350 shares increased and 1,095 shares decreased on the BSE, while 167 shares in total remained unchanged.

The NSE's VIX index, which measures market expectations for near-term volatility, fell 2.48% to 17.16. According to the Reserve Bank of India's Weekly Statistical Supplement, which was published on Friday, 15 July 2022, India's foreign exchange reserves decreased by $8.062 billion to a 15-month low of $580.252 billion in the week ended 8 July 2022.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year federal paper for India increased to 7.437% from 7.438% at the closing of the previous trading session. The rupee fell against the dollar on the foreign currency market. In comparison to the previous trading session's finish of 79.8200, the rupee was essentially unchanged at 79.9800. The 5 August 2022 settlement price for MCX Gold futures increased by 0.66% to Rs 50,437. The US Dollar index (DXY), which measures the dollar's value with a variety of other currencies, fell 0.64% to 107.37. Brent crude for September 2022 settlement increased by $1.84 or 1.86% to $100.94 a barrel on the commodities market.

The Dow Jones futures were up 304 points, signalling a positive start to today's trading session for stocks on Wall Street. As investors anticipated statements later in the week, shares in Europe and Asia rose on Monday. The Monday market in Japan was closed due to a holiday. As China's mounting COVID cases rekindle concerns over fuel demand, oil prices fell.
