The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index increased 0.46% in the broader market, while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index jumped 0.24%. The market had a confident breadth. The BSE saw 1,750 shares rise and 1,550 fall, and 138 shares remained unchanged.

Today, the Nifty Metal index fell 1.31% to 5278.2. Over the last month, the index has dropped by 6.00%. Tata Steel Ltd fell 3.86%, Vedanta Ltd down 3.30%, and Jindal Stainless Ltd fell 1.98% among the members. The Nifty Metal index has increased by 1% in the last year, compared to a 5.39% increase in the benchmark Nifty 50 index. Other indices rose 1.20% on the day, with the Nifty Pharma index rising 1.20% and the Nifty Energy index rising 1.20%.

The NSE's India VIX, which measures market expectations of near-term volatility, plummeted 3.51% to 19.14. The Dow Jones futures were up 93 points, signalling that the US stock market would open higher today. On Thursday, European stocks fell across the board. Investors are anticipating the European Central Bank's monetary policy meeting and decision on Thursday. At its policy meeting in July, the European Central Bank is expected to announce a rate hike in July. On Thursday, the majority of Asian stocks fell. Brent crude for the August 2022 settlement was down 18 cents or 0.15% at $123.40 a barrel.
