Nifty closed above 15,600, while the Sensex surged 934 points as oil and gas stocks rise. Domestic equity benchmarks finished the day with solid gains, tracking positive global cues. Following a recent steep correction, stocks surged on value buying. Stocks in media, oil and gas, and public sector banks rose. The S&P BSE Sensex increased 934.23 points, or 1.81%, to 52,532.07. The Nifty 50 index increased by 288.65 points, or 1.88%, to 15,638.80.

The indices were boosted by Titan Company (up 5.92%), SBI (up 3.79%), TCS (up 3.17%), HCL Technologies (up 2.81%), and Dr.Reddy's Laboratories (up 2.70%). The overall market increased. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index increased by 2.42%, while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index increased by 2.99%. Suven Life Science hit a 20% high at Rs.76.55 after the company announced that its board of directors will consider a rights issue of shares on June 24, 2022.

The market's breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,502 shares rose while 831 fell and 129 shares remained unchanged. The NSE's India VIX, a measure of the market's expectation of near-term volatility, fell 5.66% to 21.14. The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper increased to 7.483 from 7.427 at the previous trading session's close. The rupee fell against the dollar in the foreign exchange market. The rupee was trading at 78.10, down from 77.98 at the previous trading session's close.

Gold futures on the MCX for the 5 August 2022 settlement rose 0.02% to Rs.50,745. The US Dollar index (DXY), which measures the value of the greenback against a basket of currencies, fell 0.54% to 104.13. Brent crude for the August 2022 settlement rose $2.61, or 2.31%, to $115.73 per barrel in the commodities market.

The Dow Jones futures were up 507 points, indicating a strong start to the US stock market today. Shares in Europe and Asia rose on Tuesday, as global markets appear to be staging a comeback rally following a turbulent week last week.
