Wide-spread selling was seen in metal, media, and realty stocks resulting in declining the most.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex is down 709.54 points or 1.35% to 51,822.53. The Nifty 50 index declined 225.50 points or 1.44% to 15,413.30. The broader market surged. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index slipped 1.53%, while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index shed 1.11%. The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 1,249 shares rose and 2,081 shares fell. A total of 110 shares were unchanged.

The Nifty IT index decreased 1.19% to 27,478.65. In two trading sessions, the index increased by 4.03%. L&T Technology Services (down 3.45%), Wipro (down 3.18%), Mindtree (down 2.91%), Coforge (down 2.62%), HCL Technologies (down 2.49%), Larsen & Toubro Infotech (down 2.36%), Tech Mahindra (down 1.98%), Infosys (down 0.8%), and Mphasis (down 0.18%) all saw declines.

The Nifty Metal index fell 4.87% today to close at 4490.75. Over the past month, the index has fallen 14.0 %. Hindustan Copper Ltd lost 7.34%, Hindalco Industries Ltd lost 6.72%, and National Aluminium Company Ltd lost 6.20% among the members. Compared to the benchmark Nifty 50 index's 2.28% decline, the Nifty Metal index has been down 12.00% over the past year.

Today's opening of the US stock market will be negative, according to the Dow Jones futures, which were down 413 points. On Wednesday, shares fell in Europe and Asia due to worries about rising inflation and sluggish economic development. As the country's cost-of-living situation continues to worsen, the United Kingdom's inflation rate in May reached a new 40-year high of 9.1% year-over-year.
