JSW Steel, GAIL, Glenmark Pharma, Godrej Industries, India Cements, Ruchi Soya, Jubilant Pharmova, Jubilant Industries, Aarti Industries, Ion Exchange, Info Edge India, JP Power, Aegis Logistics, Astral Pipes, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, City Union Bank, Edelweiss Financial Services, Everest Industries, Future Consumer, Force Motors, Karnataka Bank, Lemon Tree Hotels, Man Industries, Oil India Ltd, Ramky Infrastructure, Sun TV and VRL Logistics will release their quarterly results today.        

Overnight, US indices closed higher amid positive global cues. Today, shares in Asian markets too surged as Tech giant Alibaba Group announced its earnings report. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng jumped by more than 2%.   

In India too, the market strength was very good as 2,065 equities increased on the BSE, whereas 1,029 declined, and 131 shares remained unchanged. Around 180 stocks are locked in the upper circuit, whereas 169 were in their lower circuit.   

 At 11:45 am, Indian benchmark indicator Sensex was trading at a level of 54,557.43, up by 0.56%. The top gainers of Sensex were Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Finserv Ltd. BSE Midcap index was trading at a level of 22,375.52, rose by 1.05%. BSE Smallcap index was trading at 25,557.31, advanced by 0.95%. The Nifty 50 was trading at 16,262.90, up by 0.57%. The top-performing companies were Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra and Apollo Hospitals.  

On the sectoral front, most of the indices were trading in the green, with BSE Finance and BSE IT being the top-performing sectors. BSE Oil and Gas and BSE Energy were the only sectors trading in the red.
