Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 witnessed a gap down opening amid weak global sentiments.
The market strength today is very poor, as 501 equities increased on the BSE, whereas 2681 declined. There were a total of 91 shares that remained unchanged. In the case of domestic indices, the Sensex was trading at a level of 54,730.80, down by 1.74%, and the Nifty 50 was trading at 16,375.85, down by 1.84%.
BSE Midcap index was trading at a level of 23,064.61, down by 2.33%. The top gainers of the index were NHPC Ltd, Tata Communications Ltd and Colgate Palmolive India Ltd. The top stocks dragging the index were Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company, Voltas Ltd and Info Edge India Ltd. All of these stocks were down by more than 6-7%.
BSE Smallcap index was trading at 26,980.20, down by 2.51%. The top gainers were Vardhman Textiles Ltd, Hindustan Foods Ltd and Prozone Intu Properties Ltd. Each of these stocks gained more than 4%. The top stocks pulling the index down were Cupid Ltd, Angel One Ltd and Green Panel Industries Ltd.
