Nifty 50 opened higher on Tuesday at 18,183.95 as against its previous close of 18,118.55. This was amid strong global cues. Key Wall Street indices concluded sharply higher on Monday. This can very well be attributed to a surge in technology and semiconductor stocks building interest.

At 10:30 a.m., Nifty 50 was trading at 18,143.65, up by 25.1 points or 0.14%. Broader market indices, on the other hand, underperformed frontline indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index and Nifty Small-Cap 100 index was trading flat with a negative bias.

On BSE, the advance-decline ratio was modestly buoyant with 1704 stocks advancing, 1470 declining and 172 remaining unchanged. On the sectoral front, apart from metals, pharma and realty, all other sectors were trading flat to negative.

According to the data on January 23, FIIs were net sellers and DIIs were net buyers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares to the tune of Rs 219.87 crore. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 434.96 crore. On a month-till-date basis, FIIs net sold shares worth Rs 20,099.98 crore, while DIIs bought shares worth Rs 16,617.34 crore.
