List of top 5 gainers and losers in the Midcap and Smallcap segment for the week from February 18 to 24, 2022.

Yesterday’s session was a picture of a massive meltdown in the market’s world over after Russia invaded Ukraine early morning. Indian counterparts witnessed huge losses which would go down in history as the 10th biggest intraday loss of almost 5% losing 2792 points while Nifty sank by 4.8% shedding 815 points. Sensex closed at 54439.62 while Nifty at 16247.95 for the week with a weekly loss of 5.81% and 5.95%, respectively.

The broader market was also scathed by the turn of geopolitical events with S&P BSE MidCap Index closing at 22256.71 with a loss of 1708.15 points or a massive 7.13% for the week. The S&P BSE SmallCap faced even more volatility and nervousness losing even more by 2581.5 points or 9.23% and closed for the week at 25390.95.

The bull rally was led by Supreme Industries Ltd in the mid-cap segment. The shares of the company delivered a weekly return of 4.01% compared to BSE Midcap (-7.13%). The share price of the company rose from Rs 1966.5 to Rs 2045.45 during the period. The stock witnesses an upturn after posting its 52- week low of Rs 1855.80 on February 15.

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd was the second biggest mid cap gainer for the week. The shares of the company delivered a weekly return of 3.55% rising from Rs 391.7 to Rs 405.6 during the period after it acquired 55% stake in Butterfly Gandhimathi Appliances Ltd for Rs 1403 per equity share aggregating to Rs 1379.68 crore.

The stock logged fresh 52-week low in yesterday’s trading session at Rs 95.20 after trading in red in all consecutive session for the week as fresh shares allotted by the company to qualified institution buyers (QIBs) started trading on the bourses on February 18,2022.

 The top gainer in the Smallcap segment was Federal-Mogul Goetze (India) Ltd. The stock surged 13.35% for the week from the levels of Rs 234.05 to Rs 265.30. The company which is engaged in the auto parts and equipment industry announced a merger agreement of its parent company Tenneco Inc with Pegasus Merger Company (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pegasus Holdings III, LLC).

Butterfly Gandhimathi Appliances Ltd was the second biggest mid cap gainer for the week. The shares of the company delivered a weekly return of 7.97% rising from Rs 1280.9 to Rs 1383 during the period after the news of Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals acquiring a 55% stake in Butterfly Gandhimathi Appliances Ltd for Rs 1403 per equity share aggregating to Rs 1379.68 crore and further 26% to be acquired through open offer aggregating up to Rs 666.57 crore from the public shareholders of Butterfly in accordance with the SEBI Regulations at a price of Rs 1,433.90 per equity share

The stock tumbled after posting weak results for the December quarter. The NBFC serving MSMEs and individuals was under selling pressure after it logged its 52-week high of Rs 187.50, trading in red for all consecutive trading sessions for the week.
