List of top 5 gainers and losers in the Midcap and Smallcap segment for the week from March 31 to April 7, 2023.

The frontline index S&P BSE Sensex gained 1.43% or 841.45 points during the week and closed at 59,832.97 on April 7, 2023.

The positive rally was broad-based during the week with S&P BSE Mid Cap closing up by 1.19% at 24,351.06. The S&P BSE Small-Cap also ended at 27,725.34 gaining 2.85%.

The biggest gainer in the mid-cap segment for the week was Indian Energy Exchange Ltd. Shares of this power exchange company rose by 17.9% for the week from the levels of Rs 127.9 to Rs 150.8. In its exchange filing, the company announced that it has achieved 9212 MU overall volume in March 2023, including green market trade of 391 MU, 8.69 lac RECs (equivalent to 869 MU) and 22,881 ESCerts (equivalent to 23 MU). The overall volume during the month was 12% higher on a MoM basis, while it declined 4% on a YoY basis.

The losers of small-cap space were led by Orient Electric Ltd. The shares of this consumer durables company fell from Rs 270.35 to Rs 235.7 registering a loss of 12.82% in the stock price. The stock fell after the company announced a major management change. The has appointed Rajan Gupta as additional director and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for five years effective from April 4, 2023. Rajan Gupta will take over the top post from Rakesh Khanna who resigned as a director and from the position of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, effective from the close of business hours on April 3, 2023.
