Tata Play, Airtel Digital TV Merger in Works as  DTH Battles Streaming Disruption

By 5paisa 25 Feb 2025

Tata Play and Airtel Digital TV are in merger talks via a swap deal, as DTH struggles against the rising dominance of streaming platforms.

Airtel is expected to hold over 50% in the merged entity, boosting its revenue in the non-mobile segment, according to an ET report.

The merger will give Airtel access to nearly 20 million Tata Play subscribers, bundling broadband, telecom, and DTH into a single subscription.

The combined entity is valued at ₹7,000 crore, with Airtel’s senior management expected to lead operations, while Tata holds two board seats.

This will be the biggest DTH merger since the 2016 Videocon d2h-Dish TV deal, with Disney retaining its stake in the new entity.
