When people think of Indian textiles, the Vardhman Group is a name that tends to come up quickly. Founded in Ludhiana, Punjab, the group has grown from a modest 6,000-spindle operation in 1965 into one of India’s largest vertically integrated textile manufacturers, with a presence in more than 75 countries.

From a stock market perspective, the Vardhman Group offers investors exposure to India’s textile sector through a structured set of listed companies. The flagship, Vardhman Textiles, carries a market capitalisation of roughly ₹16,410 crore, while the holding company, Vardhman Holdings, and the steel subsidiary, Vardhman Special Steels, complete the publicly traded portfolio.

For investors looking to participate in the textile and speciality steel sectors through a disciplined, promoter-led conglomerate, understanding how Vardhman Group stocks work is a useful starting point.

About Vardhman Group of Companies

The Vardhman Group was established in 1962 with the incorporation of Vardhman Spinning and General Mills Limited (VSGML). Commercial production began in 1965, led by founders V.S. Oswal and R.C. Oswal. Over the following decades, the group expanded methodically into sewing threads (1982), woven fabric processing, acrylic fibre, and speciality steel.

Today, the group’s structure is centred around a holding entity that owns strategic stakes in its operating subsidiaries.

The four main entities relevant to stock market investors are:

  • Vardhman Holdings Limited, the registered non-banking financial company (NBFC) and central holding vehicle
  • Vardhman Textiles Limited, the largest and most liquid listed company in the group
  • Vardhman Special Steels Limited (VSSL), which manufactures high-quality alloy and special steels for the automotive sector in technical collaboration with Japan’s Aichi Steel
  • Vardhman Industries, which manages some of the group’s other manufacturing activities

Shri Paul Oswal is the current Chairman and Managing Director of the group and has led it for over five decades. The group has always focused more on textiles and industrial manufacturing and less on aggressively diversifying.

Its products are exported across Europe, the United States, Asia, and Africa, with excellent foreign revenue exposure. On the governance front, Vardhman always maintains promoter stakes of over 74.90% in वर्धमान होल्डिंग्स. This makes it an excellent choice for investors in the stock market.
