History

Colgate-Palmolive first came to India in 1937. Till 1980s the company didn’t have any strong impact on the oral industry in India. In 1983 the company came up with a brand new product called Colgate Plus Toothbrush, and it became a major success in the industry. After that, C.P.I.L. was able to secure the license to produce 24,000 tonnes of fatty acids per year in 1988.In June 1988, the company invested in a subsidiary at Hetanda in Nepal. This subsidiary started its journey of manufacturing toothpaste along with tooth powder for the people of Nepal. 

In 1991, the company introduced new Colgate Gel Toothpaste Palmolive Extra Care and Palmolive soap. They also relaunched a high-quality Colgate Plus toothbrush as well as other toothbrushes. In 1994, the company purchased Hindustan Ciba-Geigy Ltd's oral hygiene business. In 1996, the company launched Colgate fresh stripe toothpaste and Palmolive naturals soap in the personal care category.
