History of Bank of Baroda

Bank of Baroda was founded by Sayajiran Galkwad in the year 1908 as a private bank.It established its first branch in Mandvi, Baroda. The bank grew domestically until world war 2 and then it started providing services to Indians in Kenya and Indians in Uganda by inaugurating a branch each in Mombasa and Kampala. 

The bank inaugurated its second branch in Kenya, Nairobi then it opened its other branch in Tanzania at Dar-es-salaam. In 1957, the Bank of Baroda established its branch in London and the very next year they acquired Hindi Bank. 

Now, the Bank of Baroda is headquartered in Vadodara, Gujarat. It has 94 branches overseas and a network of 8168 branches across India. During 2010-11 , the bank received a National award for performance under the implementation of the PMEGP scheme. 

In September 2018, Dena Bank and Vijaya bank merged with Bank of Baroda and after the merger, the bank is the third largest bank in India.
