About Edelweiss Group of Companies

Edelweiss Group is a leading investment and financial services company headquartered in Mumbai. Co-founded by Rashesh Shah and Venkat Ramaswamy in 1995, the company has established itself as a prominent player in the Indian financial sector. Edelweiss offers a diverse range of financial services, including brokerage, life and general insurance, private equity, and investment-related services through its subsidiaries. It is registered with the National Stock Exchange of India, Bombay Stock Exchange, and Multi Commodity Exchange and operates a broad network of sub-brokers and authorized personnel across India.

Initially, Edelweiss focused on private equity syndication, mergers, and acquisitions, offering advisory services. In 2000, it became a merchant bank and helped startups raise funds through venture capital and private equity. It expanded its operations in 2007 by launching asset management services and obtaining its Clearing Member License. The same year, Edelweiss Global Wealth Management was established to offer wealth structuring and risk management solutions.

In 2008, Edelweiss established its philanthropic arm, the EdelGive Foundation, focusing on education and livelihoods. The company continued its expansion by acquiring Anagram Capital in 2010 and forming a joint venture with Tokio Marine in 2011 to establish Edelweiss Tokio Life Insurance. In 2016, Edelweiss Asset Management acquired fund schemes from JP Morgan Asset Management India and Ambit Investment Advisors' hedge fund, Ambit Alpha Fund. Additionally, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) acquired a 20% equity stake in Edelweiss Asset Reconstruction Company to invest in stressed assets and corporate credit segments.

The Group introduced inclusive initiatives, such as its 2022 Group Health Policy covering the LGBTQ+ community. However, in 2024, the Reserve Bank of India restricted Edelweiss Asset Reconstruction Company and ECL Finance from acquiring more business due to regulatory concerns related to bad loans.

Through its diversified portfolio and growth over the decades, Edelweiss Group has maintained a significant presence in India's financial sector while navigating challenges and regulatory changes.
