About Shapoorji Pallonji Group of Companies
Shapoorji Pallonji Group, headquartered in Mumbai, is a renowned Indian conglomerate with diverse business interests, including construction, engineering, infrastructure, real estate, energy, and textiles. Established in 1865 as Littlewood Pallonji, the company has grown into one of India's most valuable private enterprises. The Group was led by Pallonji Mistry until his retirement in 2012, after which his son, Shapoor Mistry, took over its management.
The company has been instrumental in shaping India’s architectural landscape, contributing to the construction of iconic landmarks such as the Bombay Stock Exchange building, the Reserve Bank of India building, and the Taj Intercontinental. Internationally, it constructed the Al Alam Palace for the Sultan of Oman, Ebene Cyber City in Mauritius, and Jumeirah Lake Towers in Dubai. The company also built India’s tallest building at the time, The Imperial, in Mumbai.
The Group's history dates back to its first project, constructing a pavement on Girgaum Chowpatty, followed by a reservoir on Malabar Hill that supplied water to Mumbai for over a century. In the 1930s, Shapoorji Pallonji acquired F.E. Dinshaw and Co., gaining a 12.5% stake in Tata Sons, which increased to 18.37% after a rights issue in 1996. The acquisition of Forbes & Company Ltd in 2001 further diversified the Group's portfolio.
In recent years, Shapoorji Pallonji Group has focused on debt reduction through divestments, including the initial public offering of Sterling & Wilson Solar in 2019 and the sale of Eureka Forbes in 2021. By 2024, the Group had significantly reduced its stake in Sterling & Wilson Solar and sold its controlling interests in PNP Port and Gopalpur Port.
The Shapoorji Pallonji Group continues to be a significant player in the construction and engineering sectors, known for its quality, innovation, and contribution to iconic projects across India and beyond. Its legacy, spanning over 150 years, reflects its resilience and adaptability in a dynamic business environment.
