About Torrent Group of Companies
The Torrent Group, an Indian conglomerate headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is a key player in the pharmaceutical and power sectors. Established in 1959 by Late Mr. U. N. Mehta, the Group began its journey with a vision of "Happiness for All." Over the decades, it has grown into a diversified conglomerate with a significant presence in healthcare and infrastructure.
The Group's journey in pharmaceuticals began in 1959 with Trinity Laboratories, which was later renamed Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited in 1971. Torrent Pharmaceuticals is globally recognized for its expertise across various therapeutic segments, including cardiovascular (CV), central nervous system (CNS), gastro-intestinal (GI), and women’s healthcare (WHC). With a strong emphasis on innovation and quality, Torrent Pharma has established itself as a leading player in the global healthcare industry.
In 1989-90, Torrent Group expanded into the power sector by acquiring Mahendra Electricals, which was later renamed Torrent Cables Ltd. This marked the beginning of Torrent Power’s journey, and in 2014, Torrent Cables was merged with Torrent Power. Torrent Power is involved in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, along with cable manufacturing. Its operational efficiency and consistent performance have positioned it among the best-run power utilities in the country.
The Torrent Group’s leadership includes Late Mr. U. N. Mehta, whose visionary approach laid the foundation for the conglomerate, and Mr. Samir Mehta, the current Chairman, who has driven strategic initiatives in both pharmaceuticals and power. The Group’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainability has been instrumental in shaping its legacy, making it a significant contributor to India’s healthcare and infrastructure sectors.
