Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) is bringing a group of global investors into its airport business as it prepares for the next leg of expansion. The company will raise ₹9,825 crore in fresh equity from investors including Alpha Wave Global, Premji Invest, Temasek and funds managed by BlackRock.

Together, the investors will eventually own 5.54% of AAHL. The deal values the airport operator at around $18 billion before the fresh capital comes in.

Unlike a secondary share sale, where money changes hands between existing and incoming shareholders, this transaction will put fresh capital directly into AAHL.

The investment will not arrive all at once. It will be brought in across three tranches, with the final tranche expected to be completed by July 2027.

Where Will the ₹9,825 Crore Go?

A large part of the money is headed back into the airport business.

AAHL plans to use the fresh capital to expand and modernise its airports while also building businesses around them. The first phase of its Airport City programme will cover around 22 million square feet and bring offices, hotels, restaurants, retail outlets and other commercial spaces into the areas surrounding its airports.

The company is also looking beyond the traditional airport business. Ground handling and other non-aeronautical services are among the areas it plans to expand.

AAHL expects these investments to support infrastructure capable of serving around 200 million passengers annually.

AAHL Currently Operates Eight Airports

Adani Airport Holdings’ network spans eight airports — Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Navi Mumbai.

Together, these airports account for more than 23% of India’s total passenger traffic.

The fresh equity also marks a change in the way AAHL has been funding its growth. Its earlier fundraising has largely leaned on debt and project financing.

In 2022, the company raised $250 million through a three-year external commercial borrowing. Two years later, it raised ₹1,950 crore through non-convertible debentures.

Another $750 million was raised from international banks through external commercial borrowings in June 2025. Of this, $400 million went towards refinancing existing debt, while the remaining amount was earmarked for infrastructure upgrades, capacity expansion across six airports and non-aeronautical businesses.

Around the same period, AAHL’s subsidiary Mumbai International Airport Ltd secured $1 billion in project financing. This included $750 million of notes along with an option to raise another $250 million.

Fresh Equity Comes After Adani Enterprises’ ₹15,000 Crore QIP

The airport fundraising follows another large equity transaction within the group.

Adani Enterprises completed a ₹15,000 crore qualified institutional placement in July 2026. The AAHL deal now brings another set of long-term domestic and international institutional investors into the group’s businesses.

For AAHL, the immediate significance is the ₹9,825 crore of fresh capital it will receive. The money gives the airport operator additional room to expand its existing infrastructure while pushing ahead with Airport City developments and businesses that sit beyond its core aviation operations.
