Gopal Snacks Commissions 19,642 MT Besan Manufacturing Unit at Nagpur Facility
Last Updated: 11th September 2026 - 03:17 pm
Gopal Snacks Limited has commissioned a new besan manufacturing unit at its existing Nagpur facility in Maharashtra, strengthening its backward-integrated manufacturing operations and bringing the production of a key ingredient closer to its snack manufacturing base.
The newly commissioned unit has an installed capacity of 19,642 metric tonnes (MT) per annum.
For Gopal Snacks, the addition is aimed at reducing the movement of besan from its manufacturing locations in Rajkot to Nagpur. Producing the ingredient locally is expected to lower transportation costs, simplify material movement and further integrate the Maharashtra facility with the company’s in-house manufacturing model.
Besan Production Moves Closer to Nagpur Operations
Besan is an important input across Gopal Snacks’ product portfolio, and the new unit adds another layer of manufacturing capability to its Nagpur operations.
Until now, besan required at the facility was transported from the company’s Rajkot manufacturing locations. With production now available in Nagpur itself, the company expects to reduce that movement and the associated transportation expenses.
Gopal Snacks said the capital expenditure for the unit is largely one-time in nature and expects the facility to generate recurring cost benefits over the coming years.
These benefits, however, remain company expectations and will depend on how the facility performs after commissioning.
Nagpur Expands Its Role Beyond Gujarat
Nagpur has developed into an important manufacturing location for Gopal Snacks’ growth outside Gujarat.
The facility already manufactures several categories, including gathiya, namkeen, snack pellets, wafers, extruded snacks and papad.
Adding besan production means one of the inputs used across the company’s snack operations can now be manufactured closer to where it is consumed, further integrating the Nagpur facility into Gopal Snacks’ production network.
The company views the investment as part of its strategy to generate longer-term operating efficiencies through greater backward integration.
Rajkot Main Plant Back in Operation
The business update also highlighted the company’s progress in restoring operations.
Gopal Snacks said its Rajkot Main Plant is operational and referred to a record monthly sales performance as an indication of progress in restoring operations and strengthening its presence across key markets.
The company plans to build on this momentum by increasing penetration in its existing geographies and improving product availability and distribution reach.
These growth objectives are forward-looking and were presented by the company as part of its strategy rather than as assured outcomes.
Gopal Snacks Operates Six Manufacturing Facilities
Gopal Snacks manufactures a broad portfolio of packaged foods, including gathiya, namkeen, wafers, snack pellets and extruded snacks, alongside products such as papad, besan, spices and bakery items.
Its manufacturing network consists of six facilities supported by in-house cold storage and ancillary units.
On the distribution side, the company works with more than 1,000 distributors and operates nearly 300 owned logistics vehicles.
Gopal Snacks also exports its products to markets including Canada, the UAE, the UK and the US.
The commissioning of the 19,642 MT-per-annum besan unit adds another in-house manufacturing capability to that network. Rather than transporting the ingredient from Rajkot, the company can now produce it at Nagpur, with the stated objective of reducing logistics costs and improving the efficiency of its Maharashtra operations.
