India’s Specialised Investment Fund market has crossed ₹31,000 crore in assets within a relatively short period of its launch, although most of that money remains concentrated among three fund platforms.
The SIF industry now manages ₹31,175 crore across 33 funds offered by 17 asset management companies, according to data from the SIF Intelligence Report cited by Moneycontrol.
The largest three platforms account for ₹21,334 crore between them. That represents roughly 68.5% of the industry’s assets.
Edelweiss Mutual Fund’s Altiva currently leads with ₹10,785 crore. ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund’s iSIF follows at ₹5,430 crore, while SBI Mutual Fund’s Magnum SIF platform manages ₹5,119 crore.
The numbers show that SIFs are expanding, but the early market is far from evenly distributed.
Specialised Investment Funds were introduced as a regulated investment category positioned between conventional mutual funds and products such as portfolio management services. They permit fund managers greater flexibility in areas including derivatives and long-short strategies, while carrying a higher minimum investment threshold than ordinary mutual fund schemes.
The product universe has also widened as additional AMCs have entered the category.
That expansion makes the current level of concentration particularly relevant. Nearly seven out of every ten rupees invested in SIFs are presently managed by just three platforms despite 17 AMCs now operating in the segment.
The ranking could change as newer funds build assets and investors become more familiar with the category.
For now, however, the data shows two developments occurring simultaneously: overall SIF assets are rising quickly, while the bulk of those assets remain with a small group of early leaders.
