Indian equity markets witnessed selling pressure in early trade on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, with the Nifty 50 declining 0.87 per cent to 22,551 as of 9:30 am. The decline was driven by escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, rising crude oil prices and caution ahead of the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision later today. Brent crude rose 1.35 per cent to $115.42 per barrel amid renewed concerns over supply disruptions following attacks on Saudi Arabian oil infrastructure. Higher oil prices could increase India's import bill, fuel inflation and weigh on corporate earnings.

Meanwhile, investors remained cautious ahead of the Fed's interest rate decision, while Jio Platforms made a strong debut on the stock exchanges today, with its shares listing at ₹1,358 on the BSE and NSE, 21.36% above the IPO issue price. On the institutional front, FIIs were net buyers worth ₹4,240.39 crore on Tuesday, October 27, while DIIs were net sellers worth ₹1,250.03 crore. Despite foreign institutional buying and Jio's strong listing, elevated oil prices and global uncertainty continued to weigh on overall market sentiment.

Amidst this backdrop, here are the top gainers and losers in the Nifty 500 index.
