Indian equity markets are set to track multiple global and domestic triggers in the week beginning April 13, after benchmark indices posted their biggest weekly gains in over five years.

The Nifty 50 rose 1,337 points or 5.89% to close at 24,051 during the week ended April 10, while the Sensex advanced 4,231 points or 5.77% to settle at 77,550. Larger markets also showed good performance, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indexes rising by more than 7.5% each.

Ceasefire And Oil Prices In Focus

The two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, which began on April 8, will remain a key monitorable. Crude oil prices declined sharply during the previous week, with Brent crude falling 13.7% to $94.25 per barrel, marking its steepest weekly drop since June 2025, according to Reuters.

However, there remain concerns after failed talks between the two countries. The passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz continues to be limited, and the flow of oil around the world becomes unclear.

Economic Data Announcements

The domestic inflation statistics for March will be announced on April 13, while the wholesale price index will be announced on April 14. These figures are critical for monetary policy assessment by the Reserve Bank of India.

Globally, China’s first-quarter GDP data is due on April 16. The economy had been recording a growth of 4.5% for the December 2025 quarter. Other economic releases include retail sales, industrial production, and employment numbers.

In the United States, data on the producer price index, initial jobless claims, and manufacturing activity are due during the week, giving pointers on inflation and economic conditions.

Earnings Season Picks Up Pace

There are about 50 companies set to release their earnings in the coming week. They include HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Life Insurance Company, and Wipro.

Other firms set to report earnings include Yes Bank, CRISIL, Just Dial, Angel One, and Bajaj Consumer Care, as per exchange disclosures.

Institutional Flows And Currency Movement

Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers for the week, offloading ₹20,710 crore worth of equities, while domestic institutional investors purchased ₹21,600 crore, according to exchange data.

The Indian rupee ended at 93.05 against the U.S. dollar on April 10, reflecting a weekly decline of 0.41%.

Primary Market Activity And Holiday

Primary market activity remains limited, with a few initial public offerings scheduled, including an infrastructure investment trust issue worth ₹1,105 crore opening on April 17.

Markets will remain closed on April 14 on account of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti. On balance, market players will keep their eyes on geopolitical events, commodity prices, and economic indicators when markets reopen on the truncated trading week.
