The price of Gift Nifty stood at 24,154 on Tuesday, which implied that there would be an undervalue of about 105 points compared to the previous day’s closing price of the Nifty future, hence predicting that the Indian stock market will have a sluggish start. This prediction follows after the Sensex and Nifty 50 indices closed lower on Monday.
Gift Nifty Indicates Pressure At The Open
The Sensex fell 442.93 points, or 0.57%, to close at 77,708.52 on Monday, while the Nifty 50 declined 95.80 points, or 0.39%, to settle at 24,238.50. The sharp discount in Gift Nifty suggests that the pressure could continue at the start of Tuesday’s session.
Global markets remained mixed ahead of key corporate earnings announcements. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 1.03% and the Topix gained 1.04%. South Korea’s Kospi advanced 1.06%, while the Kosdaq slipped 0.99%. Hang Seng index futures pointed to a lower opening in Hong Kong.
Wall Street Ends Lower Ahead Of Big Tech Results
U.S. equities closed lower on Monday as investors awaited quarterly earnings from major technology companies later in the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 307.16 points, or 0.59%, to 51,839.26. The S&P 500 declined 14.41 points, or 0.19%, to 7,443.28, while the Nasdaq Composite ended 12.17 points, or 0.05%, lower at 25,508.07.
Nvidia share price rose 0.23%, while AMD gained 1.58% and Microsoft share price increased 2.15%. Apple stock price declined 2.14%, Tesla stock price fell 2.96% and SpaceX shares dropped 3.34%.
U.S.-Iran Conflict Keeps Oil And Markets On Watch
The Middle East conflict remained a key market factor after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said two oil tankers caught fire following explosions while attempting to cross the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz. The Guards also said the waterway would remain closed while U.S. military action in the region continued.
Crude oil prices eased amid reports of mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran. Brent crude futures declined 0.37% to $88.89 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude for September delivery was steady at $82.47.
The movement in crude oil price remains important for Indian markets because higher energy costs can affect the country’s import bill and currency sentiment.
Core Sector Growth Reaches Five-Month High
India’s output across nine core infrastructure sectors grew 5% in June, the fastest pace in five months. Growth stood at 1.1% in June 2025 and 3.2% in May 2026.
Gold price remained broadly steady as investors tracked developments in the Middle East. Spot gold price was little changed at $4,008.83 an ounce, while silver price declined 0.2% to $56.31 an ounce. The U.S. dollar index held near 100.96, close to its highest level since July 15, while the dollar traded around 162.50 yen.
