Several major Indian companies have fallen in global market capitalisation rankings in 2026, while the number of Indian firms among the world’s top 500 listed companies has declined, according to data on global market values.
Decline In Rankings Of Major Indian Companies
Reliance Industries, India’s largest listed company by market capitalisation, is currently ranked 84th among the world’s top 500 companies. The company had ranked 73rd at the start of 2026 and 55th in September 2024.
HDFC Bank has slipped to 148th position, compared with 96th at the beginning of 2026 and 105th in September 2024. ICICI Bank is now ranked 247th globally, down from 168th at the start of the year.
In the technology sector, Tata Consultancy Services has moved from 83rd to 260th at the beginning of 2026. Infosys is currently ranked 481st, compared with 197th at the start of the year and 205th in September 2024.
Other Indian Companies In Global Top 500
Other Indian firms also recorded lower rankings. Bajaj Finance is currently ranked 446th, while Hindustan Unilever stands at 473rd. Both companies had higher positions at the start of 2026 and in September 2024.
Life Insurance Corporation of India and Larsen & Toubro are ranked 486th and 493rd, respectively, compared with higher positions earlier in the year.
At present, 11 Indian companies remain in the global top 500 list. These include Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, Life Insurance Corporation of India and Larsen & Toubro.
The number of Indian companies in the list stood at 15 at the start of 2026 and 18 in September 2024.
Companies That Dropped Out
Several companies that were previously part of the top 500 list are no longer present. These include ITC, HCL Technologies, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Mahindra & Mahindra, which were included at the start of 2026.
Earlier, companies such as NTPC, Maruti Suzuki India and Tata Motors, which were present in September 2024, have also exited the list.
Global Market Capitalisation Rankings
Globally, Nvidia ranks as the world’s most valuable listed company with a market capitalisation of about $4.45 trillion. Apple and Alphabet hold the second and third positions with market values of about $3.71 trillion and $3.7 trillion, respectively.
Microsoft and Amazon rank fourth and fifth globally, while Saudi Aramco and Meta Platforms rank sixth and seventh, respectively.
Out of the top 500 companies in the world, the U.S. leads the pack with 254 companies, followed by China with 41 companies, and then Japan with 34 companies. Canada and France have 20 companies each, whereas Britain and Germany have 18 and 15 companies each.
The total number of Indian companies in the global top 500 stands at 11, considering the global market capitalisation ranking changes in the year 2026.
