Trading To Resume On May 4

The domestic stock market will reopen on Monday, May 4, after the weekend break. Indian stock exchanges are open Monday through Friday, with regular trading hours from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm. Markets remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays apart from notified exchange holidays.

Maharashtra Day marks the formation of the state of Maharashtra on May 1, 1960, following the reorganisation of states on linguistic lines.

Remaining Stock Market Holidays In 2026

According to the exchange calendar, the remaining market holidays in 2026 include Bakri Id on May 28, Muharram on June 26, Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Dussehra on October 20, Diwali Balipratipada on November 10, Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev on November 24, and Christmas on December 25.

Effect of Exchange Holidays on Settlements

In addition, exchange holidays influence the timing of settlements related to equity trading, where settlement becomes difficult due to non-trading holidays. Traders usually check their calendars prior to trading on holidays.

It is estimated that the Indian stock exchanges will observe 15 holidays in 2026 without weekends as per exchange calendars.
