LPG Price Today In India: Domestic And Commercial Cylinders Prices Stable In Important Cities

The prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remained unchanged in some important cities of India on April 7 despite the recent price hikes due to disruptions of energy routes around the world, as per official data from oil companies.

The price of a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder and a 19 kg commercial cylinder has not been revised since the latest hikes implemented in March and April.

Price variations across cities are due to differences in local taxes and freight charges.

Recent LPG Price Revisions

The government increased the price of domestic LPG cylinders by ₹60 in early March, according to official data. Commercial LPG prices were raised in two phases, first by ₹144 in March and then by about ₹200 on April 1.

The rise is due to supply-side interruptions resulting from the geopolitical conflicts that impact the international market for energy, especially through the Strait of Hormuz.

Measures for Supply and Booking

Authorities claim there is enough LPG supply despite apprehensions. Booking interval rules of 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas continue to be enforced to ensure equitable distribution, according to government statements.

A Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system has been made mandatory for cylinder delivery. Refill bookings can be made using technology-based services like IVRS, SMS, WhatsApp, and online booking portals.

Shift to Electric Cooking Devices

The government is also striving to encourage the adoption of electric cooking options. EESL is reportedly looking to ramp up its National Efficient Cooking Programme.

The government has extended the implementation deadline for energy efficiency norms for induction cooktops to January 1, 2027. Demand for electric cooktops increased significantly in March, with sales rising sharply over a short period, according to industry data.

LPG prices remain unchanged for now, while supply conditions and global energy developments continue to influence the domestic fuel market.
