Shares of oil-sensitive sectors advanced on April 15 as global crude oil prices declined below $95 per barrel, supporting gains in oil marketing companies, aviation, paint, and tyre stocks.
Brent crude dropped below the $95 mark after falling for a second consecutive session, following renewed developments around potential U.S.-Iran talks, according to Reuters. The decline comes after crude had earlier surged above $100 per barrel earlier in the week.
On the domestic equity market, oil marketing companies recorded notable gains in morning trade. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited rose over 4.4%, while Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited gained nearly 4.7%. Indian Oil Corporation advanced around 2.9%. A decline in crude oil prices usually lowers production expenses for these firms, thereby enhancing their margins.
Aviation stocks also moved higher during the session. InterGlobe Aviation, which operates IndiGo, climbed about 4.7%, emerging among the top gainers on the Nifty 50 index. Aviation turbine fuel, a key expense for airlines, is directly linked to crude oil prices, according to industry data.
Broad-Based Gains Across Sectors
Paint companies saw upward movement as well, supported by softer crude prices. Asian Paints rose around 2.4%, Berger Paints gained 1.4%, and Kansai Nerolac increased approximately 1.8%. Crude derivatives such as solvents and resins form key raw materials for the sector, as per industry reports.
Tyre manufacturers also traded in positive territory. Apollo Tyres, CEAT and JK Tyre recorded gains between 2% and 3.5%, reflecting expectations of reduced raw material costs linked to crude-based inputs such as synthetic rubber.
The overall market too was strong despite gains in individual sectors. The Sensex gained over 1,200 points while the Nifty 50 index was trading above the level of 24,200. Positive breadth prevailed in the market as all sectors performed well, including IT, metals, banking, and real estate. The India VIX index fell during the day, suggesting low volatility.
Positive Global Sentiment Influences Markets
Positive trends were seen in global markets as well. Asian stocks rallied while U.S. markets gained on closing. The S&P 500 moved closer to record levels, and the Nasdaq rose nearly 2%, according to market data.
The fall in the prices of crude oil recently is quite the opposite trend when compared to the earlier scenario where the crude oil prices reached more than $100 per barrel due to instability in West Asia. The fall in crude oil prices has boosted the equity market and other sectors that are sensitive to energy prices.
Crude oil still influences the domestic market, with price changes affecting various sectors requiring crude oil.
