Shares of Parle Industries locked in upper circuit gains after a viral video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni triggered heavy interest around the “Melody” confectionery brand on social media.
The rally in Parle Industries came despite the company having no operational or ownership link with Melody toffees or Parle Products, the privately held fast-moving consumer goods company that manufactures the candy brand.
The stock witnessed strong buying activity after a video from Modi’s visit to Rome circulated widely online. In the clip, Meloni is seen referring to a toffee gifted by the Indian Prime Minister as “very, very good,” following which Modi identifies it as “Melody.”
The exchange quickly gained traction online and revived the popular “Melodi” meme trend associated with the interactions between the two leaders.
Stock Rally Driven By Name Similarity
Retail activity in Parle Industries accelerated after the viral clip spread across social media platforms, leading to confusion among some market participants due to the similarity in the company’s name with Parle Products.
Parle Industries operates independently and is not associated with the confectionery business run by Parle Products. The listed entity was incorporated in 1983 as Express Bottlers Services Pvt Ltd before later being renamed Parle Software Ltd.
The company was originally linked to the Parle-Bisleri group but currently operates separate businesses in areas including infrastructure, real estate and paper waste recycling.
Despite this distinction, the stock witnessed sharp demand during trading hours as the Melody brand became a major online talking point.
Melody Brand Gains Attention
Parle Products Vice President Mayank Shah said the Prime Minister’s gesture had brought international visibility to Indian consumer brands.
In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Shah stated that the company was thankful for the global attention generated through the interaction and added that Melody candies are already exported to more than 100 countries.
He also clarified that Parle Products is not considering a stock market listing at present and intends to remain privately held.
According to Shah, the visibility generated from the viral moment could support stronger domestic and international sales for the confectionery brand.
Social Media Buzz Spills Over To Markets
Once again, the episode brought to the fore the impact of social media-led trends in trading activities in unrelated listed companies with similar names.
Parle Industries saw heightened retail participation during the session even though its business operations remain unrelated to packaged foods or confectionery manufacturing.
The development also renewed attention around Parle Products, which had previously drawn interest following speculation around a possible initial public offering. The company had earlier clarified that there were no immediate plans for a public issue.
The broader market has witnessed several instances in recent years where stocks with name similarities recorded sudden price movements after unrelated events triggered online attention. In the latest case, the popularity of the Melody brand and the viral interaction between the two leaders appeared to drive trading sentiment around the namesake listed company
