Petrol And Diesel Prices Remain Steady Across Major Cities; Hyderabad Records Highest Metro Rate

Petrol and diesel prices in India remained largely unchanged on March 13 across major cities, with petrol continuing to trade above ₹100 per litre in most metropolitan areas while diesel prices remained below ₹100 across all key metros.

Fuel prices are revised daily by state-run oil marketing companies based on international crude oil prices and currency movements, according to industry data reported by Reuters.

Among the six major metro cities — Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai — petrol prices stayed above ₹100 per litre in five cities, while diesel rates remained below ₹100 in each of them.

Fuel Prices In Major Metro Cities

In Delhi, petrol was priced at ₹94.77 per litre and diesel at ₹87.67. The national capital continued to record the lowest fuel prices among the major metropolitan cities.

In Bengaluru, petrol was priced at ₹102.92 per litre, while diesel stood at ₹90.99. Fuel prices in Chennai showed petrol at ₹100.93 per litre and diesel at ₹92.48.

In Hyderabad, petrol was priced at ₹107.50 per litre, the highest among major metro cities, while diesel stood at ₹95.70. In Kolkata, petrol was recorded at ₹105.41 per litre and diesel at ₹92.02. Meanwhile, Mumbai reported petrol prices at ₹103.54 per litre and diesel at ₹90.03.

Petrol Prices Vary Across States

The prices of petrol were varied across the states due to the imposition of taxes and value-added tax rates. There were variations in the transportation costs as well.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands had the lowest price of petrol at ₹82.46 per liter. On the other end of the spectrum, Andhra Pradesh had the highest price of petrol at ₹108.97 per liter. Telangana had the next highest price of petrol at ₹107.50 per liter. Kerala had the price of petrol at ₹107.30 per liter. Other states with petrol prices above ₹105 were Bihar at ₹105.47 and West Bengal at ₹105.41.

Diesel Prices Across States

Diesel prices remained below ₹100 per litre across the country but showed variation between states. The lowest diesel price was recorded in Arunachal Pradesh at ₹80.21 per litre. Diesel prices in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh were around ₹82.45 per litre.

At the higher end, Kerala reported diesel prices of ₹96.48 per litre, followed by Andhra Pradesh at ₹96.22 and Telangana at ₹95.70.

Energy Supply Concerns Amid West Asia Conflict

West Asia has been a point of concern for the global energy chain, as reported by Reuters. The news of disruptions in the shipping routes has increased the focus on the availability of fuels and their prices in many nations. India is a country that imports over 80% of the crude oil it requires.

The central government has advised people not to panic over the availability of fuel. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, said that the government will ensure that the supplies are not affected while keeping an eye on the global market.

Fuel prices in India will continue to be influenced by international crude oil movements and exchange rate fluctuations, with daily revisions carried out by oil marketing companies.
