Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged across India on July 6, with public sector oil marketing companies keeping retail fuel rates stable in metro cities and several state capitals. The daily price revision mechanism remained in place, but no changes were announced as international crude price movements remained within a limited range.
Petrol And Diesel Prices In Major Metro Cities
The latest petrol price and diesel price in India's four metro cities are as follows:
| City | Petrol (₹/litre) | Diesel (₹/litre) |
| New Delhi | 94.77 | 87.67 |
| Mumbai | 103.54 | 90.03 |
| Kolkata | 105.45 | 92.09 |
| Chennai | 100.84 | 92.39 |
Fuel Rates Remain Unchanged In Other Cities
Retail fuel rates also remained unchanged in several other cities. The petrol price in Bengaluru stood at ₹102.96 per litre, while the diesel price was ₹90.99 per litre. In Chandigarh, petrol continued at ₹94.30 per litre and diesel at ₹82.45 per litre.
State-wise differences in the petrol price and diesel price continue because of varying Value Added Tax (VAT), local levies and transportation costs. In Ahmedabad, petrol was priced at ₹94.49 per litre and diesel at ₹90.16 per litre. Agra recorded a petrol price of ₹94.51 per litre and a diesel price of ₹87.57 per litre.
Global Crude Price Remains In Focus
According to Reuters, global crude oil price remained under watch after OPEC+ agreed to raise production targets by a combined 548,000 barrels per day from August, marking the fifth consecutive monthly output increase by the producer group. The decision came as Brent crude traded around $71.70 per barrel, down 0.58%, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined 0.36% to $68.44 per barrel during Asian trading hours. Reuters also reported that OPEC+ said member countries would continue to monitor market conditions and maintain a cautious approach while supporting market stability.
Despite the increase in production targets, actual supply growth has been more gradual. Earlier disruptions to tanker movements through the Strait of Hormuz during the conflict involving Iran had affected exports from key producers, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq, limiting supply expansion, as per Reuters.
How Petrol And Diesel Prices Are Revised
Oil marketing companies revise the petrol price and diesel price every morning after considering international crude oil price movements, the rupee's exchange rate against the U.S. dollar, freight costs and applicable central and state taxes. While the review takes place daily, retail prices may remain unchanged if changes in input costs are not significant.
Petrol prices and diesel prices in cities can be checked by consumers via the websites of fuel selling agencies prior to filling their tanks. Even though the prices did not change on July 6, any further fluctuations will definitely be influenced by international crude oil prices and other factors.
