Global crude oil prices fell on Thursday, August 27, 2026, but petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged in major Indian cities. Brent crude had fallen more than 2% on August 26, while uncertainty over oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz continued to keep the international energy market volatile.

Petrol And Diesel Prices Today

State-run oil marketing companies kept retail fuel rates unchanged on Thursday. The latest city-wise petrol and diesel prices are listed below:

City Petrol Price (₹/litre) Diesel Price (₹/litre)
New Delhi ₹102.12 ₹95.20
Mumbai ₹111.21 ₹97.83
Chennai ₹107.77 ₹99.55
Kolkata ₹113.51 ₹99.82
Hyderabad ₹115.69 ₹103.82
Bengaluru ₹115.69 ₹98.80

The unchanged rates mean consumers in these cities will continue to pay the same prices at petrol pumps despite the recent movement in international crude markets.

Crude Oil Prices Ease

Brent crude was trading at $86.43 a barrel around 1230 GMT on August 26, down more than 2% from the previous level. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude stood at $82.23 a barrel towards the close of the August 26 session, marking a 0.16% decline.

The decline in crude prices came as attention remained fixed on the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments. Iran and Oman are examining alternative arrangements for managing traffic through the waterway, raising hopes of smoother movement of vessels.

However, shipping activity through the strait remained subdued. U.S. President Donald Trump has also threatened stronger sanctions against countries continuing commercial ties with Iran, adding uncertainty to the outlook for global oil supplies.

Why Domestic Fuel Rates Can Stay Unchanged

Movements in the Brent crude price do not automatically translate into an immediate change in petrol and diesel prices in India. Retail rates are influenced by several factors, including the rupee’s value against the U.S. dollar, refining costs, central and state taxes, dealer margins and other components of the pricing structure.

This means a fall in the crude oil price can occur without a corresponding reduction in retail fuel rates. Similarly, a sharp rise in international oil prices does not necessarily result in an immediate increase at domestic fuel stations.

For motorists, the petrol price and diesel price in individual cities therefore continue to depend on the pricing decisions of oil marketing companies and the broader cost structure. With global oil markets still responding to developments around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, domestic fuel rates remain unchanged for now.
