Petrol and diesel prices remained steady across six major Indian cities on Monday, August 10, with state-run oil marketing companies making no revision in retail fuel rates. The stability came despite a rise in global crude prices, with Brent and WTI both gaining in the latest session.

Petrol And Diesel Prices Across Major Cities

The latest fuel-price data shows significant differences between cities, largely due to variations in state-level taxes and other local charges.

City Petrol Price (₹/litre) Diesel Price (₹/litre)
Delhi ₹102.12 ₹95.20
Mumbai ₹111.21 ₹97.83
Kolkata ₹113.51 ₹99.82
Chennai ₹108.01 ₹99.66
Bengaluru ₹110.89 ₹98.80
Hyderabad ₹115.73 ₹103.82

Among the cities listed, Hyderabad recorded the highest petrol price at ₹115.73 per litre, while Delhi had the lowest at ₹102.12. Mumbai’s petrol price stood at ₹111.21 per litre, followed by Bengaluru at ₹110.89, Chennai at ₹108.01 and Kolkata at ₹113.51.

For diesel, Hyderabad remained the most expensive among the six cities at ₹103.82 per litre. Delhi had the lowest diesel price at ₹95.20 per litre. Diesel was priced at ₹97.83 in Mumbai, ₹98.80 in Bengaluru, ₹99.66 in Chennai and ₹99.82 in Kolkata.

Crude Oil Prices Move Higher

International crude prices recorded gains in the latest session. Brent crude rose 1.44% to $84.79 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) increased 1.08% to $79.29 per barrel.

Relevant developments related to the opening up of the Strait of Hormuz and the shipping channels have caused uncertainty in the oil market. However, while there was movement in the price of crude oil, the price at the petrol pumps did not undergo any changes on August 10.

The most recent development in the crude oil price is just one among many factors which affect the price of fuel in India. Others include the rupee-U.S. dollar conversion rate, refining costs, transport costs, dealer margins, and taxes.

How Fuel Prices Are Updated In India

Fuel pricing in India is determined through a dynamic fuel pricing policy where oil companies check the prices of petrol and diesel on a daily basis. However, even though there is a daily review of the prices, it does not imply that there is a change in the prices every day. Domestic rates can remain unchanged even when international crude prices fluctuate.

For consumers, the petrol price and diesel price on August 10 remain unchanged across the major cities covered here. Local fuel stations may display rates based on applicable taxes and charges, making it advisable for motorists to verify the rate at the point of purchase.
