Petrol and diesel prices stayed steady across major cities despite the rise in international crude prices. State-run oil marketing companies have not made a fresh retail price revision since May 25, leaving pump rates unchanged even as global energy markets remain volatile.
City-Wise Petrol And Diesel Prices
| City | Petrol Price | Diesel Price |
| New Delhi | ₹102.12 | ₹95.20 |
| Mumbai | ₹111.18 | ₹97.83 |
| Gurugram | ₹102.97 | ₹95.64 |
| Bhubaneswar | ₹108.85 | ₹100.56 |
| Chandigarh | ₹101.51 | ₹89.47 |
Fuel prices are reviewed daily under India’s dynamic pricing system, with revisions taking effect at 6 am when applicable. The daily review, however, does not mean that retail rates necessarily change each day.
Crude Oil Extends Gains
The Brent crude price was around $87.81 a barrel at 0013 GMT on Tuesday, after rising about 10% over the preceding four sessions. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures were quoted at $82.20 a barrel.
The latest increase in the crude oil price came as hopes for an agreement that could facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz weakened. U.S. President Donald Trump has demanded compensation for damage incurred by the U.S. during the conflict with Iran, adding another complication to negotiations.
The Strait of Hormuz continues to be an important passage way for energy shipments around the world, meaning that news surrounding its reopening is crucial to the crude oil market.
Jazan Refinery Restart Delayed
Saudi Aramco has postponed the restart of its Jazan refinery, which has a processing capacity of 400,000 barrels per day. The restart has now been scheduled for August 30 after the Houthis claimed two attacks on the facility on Sunday.
The developments have added another supply-related concern to the energy market. Disruptions or delays affecting major shipping routes and refining facilities can influence crude prices and transportation costs.
For Indian consumers, the unchanged petrol price and diesel price mean there has been no immediate change at major-city fuel stations despite the recent movement in global crude. Domestic pump rates are influenced by international oil prices as well as taxes, refining costs, freight, dealer margins and currency movements.
Concerns Over Ethanol-Blended Fuel
A group comprising Delhi Science Forum scientist and activist D Raghunandan, former Agriculture and Food Processing Secretary Siraj Hussain and former NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand raised concerns on Monday over the wider impact of ethanol blending in petrol.
As reported by PTI, the group flagged possible implications for land use, agriculture, food security, groundwater resources and household incomes. They also called for lower prices for ethanol-blended fuel to account for reduced fuel efficiency and potential additional vehicle-related costs.
For motorists on August 11, the key change remains in global crude markets rather than domestic pump rates, with fuel prices in major cities continuing at their existing levels.
