Petrol price and diesel price remained unchanged on July 14, with Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation maintaining existing retail rates across major cities. The three state-run oil marketing companies revise fuel prices daily based on the dynamic pricing mechanism, although no changes were announced for Tuesday.

Petrol Price and Diesel Price in Major Cities

The latest fuel rates in key cities are as follows:

City Petrol Price (₹/litre) Diesel Price (₹/litre)
Delhi 102.12 95.20
Mumbai 111.12 97.78
Kolkata 113.43 99.78
Chennai 107.75 99.57
Bengaluru 110.93 98.79
Hyderabad 115.69 103.82

Petrol price and diesel price have remained at these levels since the increase implemented in late May. Although the daily pricing system allows revisions every morning, retail rates are influenced by multiple factors, including global energy markets and domestic pricing considerations.

Crude Price Extends Rally

Crude price moved higher in international markets on Tuesday amid renewed concerns over global oil supplies. Brent crude futures for September delivery rose above $85 a barrel, trading around $85.11 after gaining more than 2%. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures for August delivery climbed to $79.91 a barrel, extending the previous session’s rally.

The rise in crude price followed fresh geopolitical developments after U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to introduce shipping fees on vessels using the Strait of Hormuz and restore a naval blockade of Iranian ports. The developments have raised concerns about supply disruptions from the Persian Gulf, one of the world’s key oil-producing regions.

Domestic Fuel Prices Stay Firm

Despite higher crude price, retail petrol price and diesel price in India have not been revised. Last week, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri indicated that reducing domestic fuel prices was not under consideration at present.

Fuel prices have increased four times over the past four months, with retail rates rising by about ₹7.5-₹8 per litre during the period.

Factors That Influence Fuel Prices

While crude price remains the primary driver of fuel pricing, it is not the only factor determining retail rates. Taxes levied by the Centre and states, refining costs, freight charges and the rupee’s exchange rate against the U.S. dollar also influence the final petrol price and diesel price paid by consumers.

The Centre has recently revised export duties on petroleum products. However, the change does not affect retail petrol price or diesel price in the domestic market, and motorists continue to pay the existing rates announced by the oil marketing companies.
