A busy day of June quarter earnings brought mixed results across sectors, with insurance, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and select industrial companies reporting healthy growth, while a handful of real estate and engineering firms faced pressure on profitability. The latest Q1 results are likely to keep several share price movements in focus during the trading session.

The June quarter earnings season was led by Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), which reported a 23% year-on-year rise in net profit to ₹13,492 crore from ₹10,987 crore. Net premium income increased 7% to ₹1.27 lakh crore, while the value of new business (VNB) climbed 61% to ₹3,136 crore. VNB margin improved to 22.9% from 15.4% a year ago, and the solvency ratio strengthened to 2.42. LIC also reported an 8.2% rise in annualised premium equivalent (APE) to ₹13,692 crore.

Pharma, Healthcare Companies Deliver Healthy Growth

Lupin posted another strong quarter, with net profit rising 16% to ₹1,415 crore as revenue increased 32% to ₹8,277 crore. EBITDA grew 50% to ₹2,463 crore, lifting the EBITDA margin to 29.8% from 26.2%.

Healthcare companies also reported steady improvement. Fortis Healthcare recorded a 2% increase in net profit to ₹266.4 crore on 17% higher revenue of ₹2,545 crore. Healthcare Global Enterprises more than doubled its quarterly profits to ₹13.8 crore. Vijaya Diagnostics posted a massive 35.9% rise in its net profit to ₹53 crore, with improved operating margins.

Mixed Performance of Manufacturing and Industrial Firms

Some of the best performing firms within the industrial category are Shipping Corporation of India, whose net profit grew by 74.9% to ₹619 crore and with a massive 40.3% growth in its income to ₹1,847 crore. EBITDA rose 80.2%, while the operating margin expanded to 47.8%.

Premier Energies reported a 50% increase in net profit to ₹463 crore and announced plans to consider raising up to ₹5,000 crore through a qualified institutional placement on September 21. Britannia Industries posted a 13.4% rise in net profit to ₹591 crore, while Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals reported a 14.8% increase in profit with a sharp improvement in operating margins.

Rain Industries, Siemens Energy India, IFB Industries, GR Infraprojects, PG Electroplast and Suprajit Engineering also reported higher revenue and profit during the quarter.

Some Companies Report Margin Pressure

Not all companies reported stronger numbers. Signature Global slipped into a net loss of ₹16.7 crore compared with a profit of ₹34.4 crore a year earlier as revenue declined 36.2%. Chemplast Sanmar widened its quarterly loss to ₹176 crore despite a marginal increase in revenue.

Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) reported a 9% decline in revenue and a sharp fall in EBITDA, while Varroc Engineering, Kirloskar Oil Engines, Apollo Tyres and Transrail Lighting also reported pressure on margins despite revenue growth.

The latest Q1 results indicate that earnings momentum remained uneven across sectors. Robust earnings performance was witnessed by financial services, pharmaceuticals, and health care sectors, while certain areas of the infrastructure, real estate, and manufacturing sectors had weaker profitability in the June quarter.
