The stocks of air conditioner units and electricity surged on April 27 due to a heat wave in north India. As per the information provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature had reached above 42°C in several locations in Delhi, while the Ridge recorded temperatures up to 43.5°C.

Shares of major air-conditioner manufacturers moved higher in early trade. Blue Star rose 3.44% to ₹1,881, while Voltas gained 2.34% to ₹1,498.20. LG Electronics India advanced 3.30% to ₹1,630.
Companies linked to manufacturing and components for cooling appliances also recorded gains. Amber Enterprises increased 2.77% to ₹7,968, and PG Electroplast rose 2.45% to ₹560.55.
Power Stocks See Buying Interest
Power sector stocks also traded higher as rising temperatures are expected to increase electricity usage. NTPC gained 1.98% to ₹409.80, while Power Grid Corporation advanced 1.00% to ₹319.55.
Higher cooling demand typically leads to increased power consumption across residential and commercial segments during peak summer months.
Heatwave Conditions Likely To Persist
IMD said that the condition of the heatwave will continue prevailing in the northwestern, central, and eastern parts of India during the coming days. The areas that are likely to face higher temperatures include Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha.
As per the report of the IMD, dry northwesterly winds, clear sky, and radiation due to the sun, in addition to warmer nights, are among the factors responsible for the occurrence of the heatwave.
There has been an increase in the prices of cooling devices and power because of the heatwave conditions prevailing in several regions.
