Indian stock indices opened lower on Tuesday, with the Sensex falling over 350 points and the Nifty slipping below 23,700 due to rising crude oil prices and escalating US-Iran tensions.
Brent crude has climbed to $97 a barrel, breaking above a range it had held for four sessions, amid concerns over prolonged supply disruptions linked to tanker attacks and risks around the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, the OPEC+ has kept output unchanged, leaving limited additional supply buffers.

GE Vernova T&D Gains 8%
GE Vernova T&D India Ltd emerged as the top gainer in the Nifty 500 on September 8, 2026. The stock was trading at ₹4,733 at 11:13 am, reflecting a gain of 8.38% over its previous close of ₹4,367.20.
Volumes also stood strong at 27 lakh, compared with its 3-day average of 10.1 lakh.
The rally came after the company announced that it had emerged as the L1 bidder for the design and establishment of a 6,000 MW, ±800 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) LCC terminal station (2x3,000 MW) for the evacuation of renewable power from Barmer II to South Kalamb.
PVR Inox Gains 6%
At 11:13 am, PVR Inox Ltd shares were trading at ₹1,234.90, a gain of 6.78% compared with the previous close.
Volumes also stood strong at 10.7 lakh, compared with its 30-day average of 5.32 lakh.
PVR Inox said a preliminary examination of anonymous allegations of impropriety by certain employees did not indicate any evidence of kickbacks. The multiplex chain stressed that the assessment was undertaken despite the allegations lacking specific and verifiable details, according to a stock exchange filing.
Data Patterns Rises Over 6%
Data Patterns (India) Ltd share price rose 6.74% and was trading at ₹4,887.60 at 11:13 am. The stock is now trading near its all-time high.
Volumes also stood strong at 16.6 lakh, compared with its 30-day average of 8.11 lakh.
The rise came as the government cleared acquisition proposals worth more than ₹1.1 lakh crore for the defence sector companies.
Top Losers for September 8: New India Assurance, IFCI and Pfizer Fall Up to 12%
New India Assurance Falls 12%
New India Assurance Ltd emerged as the top loser in the Nifty 500 on September 8, 2026. The stock was trading at ₹202.58 at 11:13 am, reflecting a loss of 12.38% from its previous close.
The fall came after the stock witnessed a sharp rally in the previous sessions following the upcoming NSE IPO. The decline on September 8 appears to be driven by profit booking after the recent gains.
IFCI Also Falls Over 8%
IFCI Ltd's share price fell 8.56% and was trading at ₹93.74 at 11:13 am.
The decline also came after the stock had rallied sharply in the previous sessions amid expectations around the upcoming NSE IPO. The stock witnessed profit booking following its recent gains.
Pfizer Drops 4%
At 11:13 am, Pfizer share price dropped to ₹4,400, reflecting a fall of 4.27%.
The fall came after the company said that it will discontinue the marketing, distribution and sale of Minipress XL with effect from September 7, 2026. This is consequent to a decision by Pfizer Inc. USA. to discontinue the manufacture of Minipress XL.
