5paisa Capital has approved the acquisition of Trendlyne's parent company, Giskard Datatech Private Limited, as the brokerage looks to strengthen its financial research, analytics and AI capabilities. The proposed acquisition will give 5paisa access to Trendlyne's MarketMind AI suite, proprietary financial datasets and research technology.
The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals. The company did not disclose the acquisition value, transaction structure or expected completion timeline in its announcement.
Through the acquisition, 5paisa plans to integrate Trendlyne's financial data, research capabilities and artificial intelligence tools across its mobile, web and algorithmic trading platforms. The brokerage said the transaction is part of its strategy to expand beyond transaction-led broking and build a platform combining investing, research, analytics and AI-based decision support.
Trendlyne's AI tools to be integrated with 5paisa
Trendlyne's proprietary MarketMind AI suite includes Ask AI, Portfolio AI, Screener AI, Options AI and Positions AI. According to 5paisa, these tools will be incorporated into different stages of the investing process, including investment research, idea discovery, portfolio analysis and trading. The planned integration is intended to provide investors with personalised research, portfolio insights and AI-supported information while making investment decisions.
Trendlyne has developed its technology and data infrastructure over the past seven years. Its platform has more than 100 proprietary datasets, of which 73 were developed in-house, according to the company's announcement. It also operates a stock-screening platform with more than 3,500 parameters. Trendlyne has approximately 1.5 million engaged monthly users and more than 40 institutional clients, while its systems process over 600 million API calls each month.
Its technology platform uses a model-agnostic Retrieval-Augmented Generation, or RAG, architecture supported by in-house small language models. A RAG system allows an AI model to retrieve relevant information from a defined data source before producing a response. In this case, the architecture is designed to connect AI-generated insights with Trendlyne's financial data and research infrastructure.
Acquisition forms part of 5paisa's broader AI strategy
Gaurav Seth, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of 5paisa Capital, said the acquisition would bring Trendlyne's AI capabilities, proprietary data and research expertise into the brokerage's platform.
"This acquisition represents a transformational step in our journey to build India's most intelligent investing platform," Seth said. "By bringing Trendlyne's proven AI capabilities, proprietary data assets and research expertise into 5paisa, we are fundamentally changing how retail investors discover opportunities, make decisions and build wealth." The Trendlyne acquisition follows 5paisa's previously announced collaboration with OpenAI. Under that collaboration, the company plans to use advanced AI capabilities and ChatGPT-powered experiences across the investing journey.
5paisa said the two initiatives would serve different but complementary functions. The OpenAI collaboration provides access to generative AI capabilities, while Trendlyne brings proprietary financial datasets, analytics tools, research infrastructure and sector-specific AI applications. The combined technology framework is expected to cover investment idea generation, financial research, portfolio management, trading and long-term wealth planning.
Moving beyond price-led broking
The acquisition also indicates a change in how 5paisa intends to position itself in India's competitive broking market. Instead of differentiating primarily through brokerage charges, the company plans to focus more heavily on proprietary data, research, analytics and AI-enabled investing tools. This could allow 5paisa to provide more contextual support to investors before and after a trade, rather than limiting its role to order execution. The effectiveness of this strategy, however, will depend on how Trendlyne's tools and datasets are ultimately integrated into the 5paisa platform.
