Indian benchmark indices are expected to begin Wednesday’s session on a cautious note after the Gift Nifty pointed to a weak start, even as overseas markets advanced. Higher crude price levels and fresh developments in the U.S.-Iran conflict are likely to keep investors watchful despite improved global sentiment.
Gift Nifty Indicates Soft Start
The Gift Nifty was trading at around 24,111.5 at 7:43 AM, reflecting a discount of 69.1 points to the previous close of Nifty futures at 24,180.60. The reading suggests a restrained opening for domestic equities after the benchmark indices ended lower for a second consecutive session.
On Tuesday, the Sensex declined 238.41 points, or 0.31%, to settle at 77,470.11, while the Nifty 50 lost 50.80 points, or 0.21%, to close at 24,187.70. Investors are also expected to track stock share price movements across sectors as trading resumes.
Global Markets Offer Support
Asian equities traded firmly higher, led by technology shares. South Korea’s Kospi surged more than 5%, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained nearly 2%. Wall Street also finished the previous session with solid gains as semiconductor stocks rebounded.
The stronger performance overseas has provided some support to overall market sentiment, although domestic investors remain focused on global risk factors that could influence near-term trading.
Geopolitical Tensions and Crude Price in Focus
The U.S. military said it had conducted its 11th consecutive day of strikes targeting military facilities and logistics infrastructure in Iran. Separately, U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington could soon target the area near Pickaxe Mountain, indicating the possibility of further escalation.
The developments lifted the crude price, with Brent crude rising 1.22% to $92.12 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude gaining 1.09% to $85.26 a barrel. Firm energy prices remain a concern for India because they can affect inflation, import costs and corporate profitability.
Gold Price Holds Firm
The gold price remained steady after a sharp rise in the previous session, supported by demand for safe-haven assets. Spot gold edged up 0.1% to $4,080.79 an ounce, while spot silver was largely unchanged at $58.83 an ounce.
Market participants are expected to monitor both the gold price and crude price through the session, alongside the movement in major stock share price trends, as global developments continue to influence risk sentiment.
