GIFT Nifty Points To Higher Opening For Sensex, Nifty; Brent Crude Holds Below $80 | June 23, 2026

GIFT Nifty indicated a positive start for domestic equities on June 23, rising 77.5 points or 0.32%, even as global markets remained cautious following weakness in technology stocks and continued developments surrounding negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.

Indian benchmark indices ended Monday’s session with modest gains. The Nifty 50 settled 90 points, or 0.37%, higher at 24,103, while the Sensex advanced 291 points, or 0.38%, to close at 77,094.

Asian Markets Trade Mixed

Markets across Asia opened with a subdued tone despite optimism over progress in talks between Washington and Tehran. Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 0.37% to 72,084.29. South Korea’s benchmark index slipped 1.12% to 9,010.90. Hang Seng futures stood at 23,830, slightly above the previous close of 23,768.52.

U.S. equity futures showed mixed trends. S&P 500 futures were down 0.1%, while Nasdaq 100 futures lost 0.3% amid selling pressure in technology shares. Dow Jones futures, however, gained 113 points.

On Monday, the S&P 500 closed 0.37% lower at 7,472.79 and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.32% to 26,166.60. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 148.01 points, or 0.29%.

Crude Oil Remains Range-Bound

Crude oil prices continued to move within a narrow band. West Texas Intermediate crude traded at $74.82 per barrel, while Brent crude for August delivery rose 0.27% to $78.11, remaining below the $80 mark.

Gold prices on COMEX were steady at $4,202 an ounce. In India, 24-carat gold was priced at ₹1,48,240 per 10 grams, up 0.64% from the previous day. The 24-carat rate in Delhi stood at ₹1,47,990 per 10 grams, while 18-carat gold was priced at ₹1,11,180.

Silver prices on COMEX declined 1.22% to $64.78 per troy ounce. Domestic silver prices, however, rose 0.75% to ₹2.35 lakh per kilogram.

Institutional Flows And Currency

According to provisional NSE data, foreign institutional investors sold shares worth ₹635.91 crore on June 22. Domestic institutional investors purchased equities worth ₹1,035.72 crore.
The U.S. Dollar Index edged up 0.01% to 101.02. The rupee weakened 0.36% to close at 94.68 against the dollar.

Sectoral Trends

Restaurant stocks recorded the highest increase in market capitalisation on Monday, gaining 3.14%. Shares in the aquaculture, waste management and logistics segments also witnessed gains. Non-alcoholic beverage companies were among the weakest performers, with the sector declining 3.1%.

Market participants will continue to monitor geopolitical developments, commodity prices and foreign fund flows as trading resumes on Tuesday.
