The investments made by mutual fund investors in SIPs stood at ₹31,961 crore in July, marginally up from ₹31,781 crore in June. This monthly number was the third-highest in 2026 after March and June.
The July numbers also showed a moderation in the SIP stoppage ratio, which fell to 81.9% from around 91% in June. The ratio compares SIPs that matured or were discontinued with the number of new SIP registrations during the month.
New SIP Registrations Outpace Closures
AMFI data showed that 61.44 lakh new SIPs were registered in July, while 50.29 lakh accounts either matured or were discontinued. The difference helped lift the overall SIP account base during the month.
The number of SIP accounts rose to 10.63 crore in July from 10.52 crore at the beginning of the month, resulting in a net addition of around 11 lakh accounts.
Contributing SIP accounts also increased. Their number stood at 9.90 crore in July compared with 9.78 crore in June.
The continued rise in SIP participation has kept monthly contributions above ₹30,000 crore for five consecutive months in 2026.
SIP Assets Cross ₹18 Lakh Crore
SIP-linked assets stood at ₹18.2 lakh crore at the end of July, accounting for 21.2% of the mutual fund industry’s total assets.
The latest data comes as investors continue to use SIPs as a regular route for mutual fund investments. Unlike lump-sum investments, SIPs involve fixed contributions at predetermined intervals, allowing investors to continue adding money irrespective of short-term market movements.
The steady flow into SIPs has also supported overall mutual fund assets. The mutual fund industry’s assets under management (AUM) increased 4.3% month-on-month to ₹85.76 lakh crore in July, helped by market gains and net inflows.
Equity Funds Record 65th Straight Inflow
Equity mutual funds attracted net inflows of ₹24,697 crore in July, extending their positive inflow streak to 65 consecutive months, according to AMFI.
Small-cap funds accounted for ₹7,768 crore of the inflows, while mid-cap funds received ₹6,192 crore. Large-cap funds, however, recorded a net outflow of ₹1,322 crore. AMFI said this was the first monthly outflow from the category in around 30 months.
Debt-oriented funds saw net inflows of ₹1.88 lakh crore during July, while hybrid funds attracted ₹11,491 crore.
SIP Flow Remains A Key Industry Indicator
July marked the second consecutive month in which SIP contributions exceeded ₹31,000 crore. The rise in total SIP accounts and the lower stoppage ratio also came alongside continued inflows into equity-oriented mutual funds.
The latest figures point to sustained activity through the SIP route, with contributions remaining above ₹30,000 crore despite fluctuations in financial markets. Mutual fund houses will continue to track new registrations, account closures and monthly contributions as indicators of investor participation in the coming months.
