The petrol and diesel prices in major Indian cities remained stable on April 9, 2026, even as there was an increase in the prices of global crude oil, which had seen their deepest one day fall since 2020, according to the latest data from oil marketing companies run by the government.

This stability in retail fuel rates can be attributed to the formula-based pricing policy of IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL.

Petrol And Diesel Prices In Major Cities

City Petrol (₹/litre) Diesel (₹/litre)
Delhi ₹94.77 ₹87.67
Mumbai ₹103.54 ₹90.03
Kolkata ₹105.45 ₹92.02
Chennai ₹100.84 ₹92.39
Ahmedabad ₹94.49 ₹90.16
Hyderabad ₹107.46 ₹95.70
Patna ₹105.71 ₹91.49
Bengaluru ₹102.96 ₹90.99
Lucknow ₹95.34 ₹88.50

According to official data, there has been no change in retail prices as companies typically factor in a 15-day rolling average of crude oil prices before revising rates.

Global Crude Oil Movement

Global oil prices edged higher on April 9. Brent crude for June delivery rose 2.1% to $96.73 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) gained 2.7% to $96.99 per barrel, as per Reuters. The increase follows a nearly 13% decline in the previous session, highlighting continued volatility linked to geopolitical developments in West Asia.

Bulk Diesel And LPG Price Changes

State-run oil marketing companies increased the price of bulk industrial diesel by ₹28.22 per litre, or 25%, to ₹137.81 per litre, applicable to commercial and industrial consumers, according to company sources.

Commercial LPG prices were raised by ₹195.50 per 19-kg cylinder on April 1, taking the rate to ₹2,078.50 in Delhi, as per official data. Domestic LPG prices remain unchanged at ₹913 per 14.2-kg cylinder in the national capital, according to PTI.

Oil marketing companies revise LPG and aviation turbine fuel prices monthly, while petrol and diesel prices depend on global crude oil rates and exchange rate movements.

Fuel prices in India have held their ground, even as global oil markets experience their usual ups and downs. For now, consumers won't see any changes at the pump.
