The Indian stock markets were in negative territory on May 27 following investor reactions to geopolitical tensions along with volatility ahead of the derivatives expiry day. The Nifty 50 index was down by 118 points, or 0.49%, at 23,913.70, whereas the Sensex lost 479.26 points, or 0.63%, closing at 76,009.7
Global markets remained mixed during the session. U.S. indices ended overnight trade on a mixed note, with the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 closing at record highs, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined. Asian markets traded mostly higher on Wednesday, led by gains in Japan and South Korea.
ONGC Profit Falls Despite Higher Crude Realisation
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) reported a 21% sequential decline in net profit to ₹6,650 crore for the March quarter, while revenue rose 14% quarter-on-quarter to ₹35,928 crore.
EBITDA increased 3% to ₹17,774 crore, though EBITDA margin narrowed to 49.5% from 54.9% in the previous quarter. The company’s crude oil realisation improved to $78.3 per barrel compared with $63 per barrel earlier, while total production slipped to 9.83 MMT from 10.21 MMT.
The board also approved a 50:50 joint venture with Gujarat Maritime Board for development of a 5 MMTPA liquid port at Dahej in Gujarat.
Siemens India, JK Tyre Post Mixed Earnings
Siemens India reported a 36.4% fall in consolidated net profit to ₹370 crore despite a 14.6% rise in revenue to ₹4,618 crore. EBITDA remained largely flat at ₹444 crore, while margins contracted to 9.6% from 11%.
The company’s board approved the merger of Siemens Rail with Siemens India.
JK Tyre and Industries posted strong growth in the March quarter. Consolidated revenue rose 12.4% to ₹4,223 crore, while EBITDA jumped 47.9% to ₹537 crore. Net profit nearly doubled to ₹25.2 crore from ₹13 crore a year earlier. The company also declared a dividend of ₹4 per share.
IRCTC, P&G Health Report Revenue Growth
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) reported a 15.1% increase in consolidated revenue to ₹1,460 crore. EBITDA rose 3.5% to ₹399 crore, while net profit increased 8.9% to ₹326 crore.
Procter & Gamble Health’s net profit soared 54.6% to ₹94.6 crore in the quarter ended March 2026. Revenue climbed 19.1% to ₹371 crore, while EBITDA margin expanded to 36.6% from 26%. The board declared a dividend of ₹45 per share.
Broader Earnings Announcements Continue
Among other companies, Brainbees Solutions narrowed its quarterly loss to ₹30.3 crore, while Ram Ratna Wires reported net profit growth of over 116% to ₹39 crore.
Senco Gold, Landmark Cars, Finolex Industries, Carraro India and Gandhar Oil Refinery India also posted strong earnings growth during the quarter. However, companies including Gujarat Fluorochemicals, Morepen Laboratories, Camlin Fine Sciences and Transrail Lighting reported pressure on profitability.
Meanwhile, Brent crude traded near $99 per barrel amid continued focus on developments related to the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing U.S.-Iran discussions.
