RBI To Hold Auction Of ₹32,000 Crore Government Bonds On April 24

On April 24, 2026, India will hold an auction of its ₹32,000 crore government securities, as per an announcement made by the Reserve Bank of India. The auction will include a mix of issuance and reissuance across four securities with varying maturities, the central bank said.

Details Of Securities On Offer

According to the RBI, ₹11,000 crore each will be raised through the 6.03% Government Security (GS) 2029 and the 6.68% GS 2033 bonds. In addition, ₹5,000 crore each will be mobilised through the 7.24% GS 2055 bond and a new Government of India Sovereign Green Bond (SGrB) 2056.

Underwriting Commitments Specified

The RBI stated that Minimum Underwriting Commitment (MUC) and Additional Competitive Underwriting (ACU) requirements will apply as per the framework notified on November 14, 2007.

For the 2029 and 2033 securities, the MUC per Primary Dealer (PD) has been set at ₹262 crore. The same ₹262 crore amount applies as the minimum bidding commitment under the ACU auction for these securities.

For the longer-duration 2055 and 2056 bonds, the MUC and minimum bidding commitment have been fixed at ₹120 crore per PD, according to the RBI.

Auction Process And Timelines

The underwriting auction will be conducted using a multiple price-based method on April 24, 2026. Primary Dealers are required to submit bids through the RBI’s e-Kuber system.

The bidding window for the ACU auction will remain open between 09:00 AM and 09:30 AM on the day of the auction, as per the central bank’s notification.

Settlement And Payment Details

The RBI said the underwriting commission will be credited to the current accounts of participating Primary Dealers on the day the securities are issued.

The planned auction forms part of the government’s market borrowing programme and outlines the schedule, quantum, and operational details for participants ahead of the April 24 issuance.
