GIFT Nifty showed a steady open for Indian shares on June 19, with a 15-point increase or 0.06% as traders kept their eyes on declining oil prices and developments around the globe due to the U.S.-Iran deal of peace.
This positive indicator came right after major indices closed the previous session on an upward note. The previous day, the Nifty 50 Index recorded an 82.30-point rise or 0.34% to close at 24,168, while the Sensex increased by 254.36 points or 0.33% to close at 77,405.
GIFT Nifty Remains In Focus
Market participants are closely watching GIFT Nifty cues as global sentiment remains mixed. Lower crude oil prices have eased concerns around inflation and India’s external balance, although signals from the U.S. Federal Reserve regarding the possibility of higher rates next year have kept investors cautious.
Brent crude futures continued to trade below the key $80-a-barrel level. West Texas Intermediate crude was down 0.77% at $76.01 per barrel, reflecting expectations of improved oil supplies after the easing of tensions in West Asia.
Asian Markets Trade Higher
Most Asian markets opened with gains on Friday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 advanced 0.6%, while the broader Topix index was largely unchanged. South Korea’s Kospi climbed 2.8% after crossing the 9,000 mark in the previous session, though the Kosdaq index slipped 0.39%. Markets in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan remained closed due to a holiday.
Wall Street Rebounds
U.S. markets recovered on Thursday after the Federal Reserve maintained benchmark interest rates but indicated that policymakers still see scope for tightening in 2026.
The S&P 500 gained 1.08% to 7,500.58. The Nasdaq Composite added 1.91% to end at 26,517.93 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 72.15 points to close at 51,564.70.
Precious Metals Down
Gold prices retreat in global markets. On COMEX, gold traded at $4,204.90 per ounce, down 0.97%. In India, 24-carat gold was priced at ₹1,49,390 per 10 grams, while 18-carat gold stood at ₹1,12,042.5.
Silver prices also weakened. Spot silver fell 2%, while domestic silver prices declined 5.72% to ₹2.38 lakh per kg. COMEX silver traded 1.68% lower at $65.20 per troy ounce.
Institutional Flow Remains Mixed
According to provisional NSE data, foreign institutional investors sold equities worth ₹1,025.20 crore on June 18. Domestic institutional investors remained buyers, purchasing shares worth ₹3,516.81 crore.
With crude prices remaining below $80 and GIFT Nifty pointing to a positive start, investors will continue to monitor global cues and institutional flows for direction during the session.
