Reliance to acquire Tata Play:

Reliance to acquire Tata Play: According to reports, Reliance Industries and Walt Disney are in talks to buy 29.8% of Tata Play, a subscription-based satellite TV and video streaming business.

Reliance's big move to strengthen its OTT platform: The possible transaction is a calculated effort by Reliance Industries to increase the visibility of JioCinema, its over-the-top platform, and fortify its position in the country's television distribution market.

First collab between Tata and Reliance: The first collaboration between Reliance and the Tata group would occur if the talks between Reliance and Tata Play are successful. It will also provide Tata Play subscribers access to JioCinema, Reliance's streaming service.

How this deal will help Reliance: DTH is gaining market share at the expense of MSO. Therefore, JioCinema will benefit from DTH's protected network of premium customers as they collaborate and expand their subscriber base.

Challenges faced by Tata Play: Even with its substantial market share, other streaming services like Netflix, Hotstar, JioCinema, and Amazon Prime pose a threat to satellite television provider Tata Play.
