This year has been less active following an all-time high in 2025, which witnessed 373 IPOs, 103 mainboard and 270 SME issues, raising approximately ₹1.95 trillion. There are currently only five mainboard openings in subscription to IPOs, and four more are to open in the next week.

The data on subscription shows that investors are moderately engaging. Aye Finance IPO was subscribed 0.97 times, and Fractal Analytics had a subscription of 2.66 times and had a low-key listing. Shadowfax Technologies is a 2.72 times subscribed company that is trading at a discount to the issue price. There was an exception in Bharat Coking Coal, where the subscription was attracted 147 times. Amagi Media Labs, which was subscribed to about 30 times, was comparatively recording muted listing gains.

Conversely, 2025 had approximately 43 IPOs, which were subscribed such as Corona Remedies, Meesho or Sudeep Pharma and Indo Farm Equipment, up to 50 times.

Market Cycle And Liquidity Trends

Since the highest point of September 2024, when the aggregate market capitalisation reached ₹5.7 trillion, broader markets have not succeeded in restoring that level. Small-cap shares have been eroded in terms of market capitalisation since they reached their peak, as have midcaps.

Abakkus mutual fund study revealed that almost half of small-sized stocks, which have market capitalisation between ₹2,000 crores and ₹34,700 crores, are trading at 40% of their all-time highs.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index has closed at 59,881.70, or nearly 3% below its all-time high of 61,548.85 on January 7, 2026. Nifty Smallcap 100 declined by 17,146.7, and this is 13% under the record of 19,716.2 on December 12, 2024.

Choppy Markets Weigh On Sentiment

Kranthi Bathini, the equity strategy manager of WealthMills Securities, described how the moderation of the degree of IPO subscription is done in volatile and range-bound markets. According to him, there were some IPOs that generated listing profits in 2025, which did not provide long-term returns, and some of them were even lower than the issue prices.

The IPO activity in India has already been low early in the year 2026, and only five mainboard issues have been issued so far, as the broader market weakness and small-cap valuations under pressure are exerting pressure on investor participation.
